One of my favorite days to celebrate is Father’s day, and it’s not only because I am a father. It is a day that emphasizes the important of all fathers and the impact they should have in the home.
I know this is not the case for everyone, but I am blessed to have a wonderful earthly Dad. He has been a great example to me and has taught me many things. The one thing that I am most grateful for is his example of living out the Christian faith. Eph 6:4 states “Fathers, don’t stir up anger in your children, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” My father certainly took this scripture to heart. He was and still is a good example to me.
There are many things I want to pass down to my children but three in particular that my Dad taught me: One, spend time in prayer every day. This is such a vital part of living a Christian life.
Second, know God’s Word. That is how we handle the pressures of this world, by knowing God’s instruction book. Third, know that you have influence over others. The key is what kind of influence you choose to have on them. I hope it is a positive influence.
As a father, one of my highest callings is to instruct my children in the way of the Lord as my father did. As we look toward this Father’s day weekend, fathers, let me challenge you to do the same. Let’s make a difference in our families and our community by striving to do these things daily.
